Formula One roars back into the sporting calendarand a company in Cardiff is providing hearing protection for the pit crews on the circuit.
Wearable technology developed by Minerva Hearing, is being used to protect the hearing Formula One pit crews and engineers against the extreme high decibels produced by race car engines.
This year celebrating its 75th anniversary of trading, Cardiff-based Minerva specialises in custom-made noise cancelling earpieces for motorsport and industry as well as in-ear monitors (IEMs) for musicians, broadcasters and the film world.
Minerva products are custom moulded to the individual’s ear shape to completely eliminate external sound.
Formed in 3D printed hard acrylic, the special earplugs also feature built-in minute acoustic filters which take into account the natural response of the ear allowing pit crew to converse with each other against the background of high noise at race weekends.
